The Standardization of Ediscovery

How should you write ‘ediscovery’?

Is it e-discovery, E-discovery, eDiscovery, or ediscovery? While some may say the derivation of a word should dictate it’s spelling1, others argue that communication has become a fashion; the method, spelling, and even the meaning of language should change to match the current social and cultural climate2. This conversation could lead into serious digression. However, I do think the spelling of a word speaks about the culture and, in some cases, the industry surrounding the term.

Contentious Competition

Posted by Neil Etheridge on Mar 10, 2017 5:25:00 AM

One may perceive DISCO’s comments about the slowness, unintuitive experience, and outdated technology of legacy competitors like kCura contentious, competitive name calling. Any perceived hostility by DISCO is unintended. In marketing, it is often difficult to describe nuances in technology innovation without sounding aggressive in its comparison (recall the Apple vs PC campaigns). Luckily, if we look in the rearview mirror, it’s easy to see patterns that emerge; patterns that can shed objective light into the present and future trajectory of legal technology.

Ready for LegalTech?

Posted by Neil Etheridge on Jan 27, 2016 2:59:56 PM

LegalTech, the biggest and most important legal technology event of the year, is less than one week away.

This will be my thirteenth time at LegalTech, but my first with DISCO — and I honestly don't think I've ever been more excited.

LTNY16 is going to be BIG.
As always, there will be compelling educational sessions and keynotes, as well as plenty of opportunities to network and share best practices with like-minded folks. And, of course, the best place to get your hands on what’s new in legal technology is in the exhibitor hall.

But that’s only part of the reason for my excitement.

Discovery is "More Than Meets The Eye"

The discovery process is so much more than reviewing and tagging documents, assessing privilege, and creating productions. All too often, discovery tools ignore the many other steps and functions that lawyers and litigation support need to perform as part of discovery -- such as creating search logs, exhibit sets, and more. They forget, or just don't know, that better tools to perform these tasks are very much needed, too -- ideally within their discovery platforms.

What an amazing week! Disco’s first outing to ILTA could not have been much more of a success. Our team had a great time meeting old friends, making news ones, and continuing to spread the word about our vision and technology. In our experience in working with a broad range of firms, we’ve realized that gaining feedback from real end users is invaluable in delivering a complete platform that addresses the discovery challenges of today.

Changing Expectations and Reality for Legal Technology: The DISCO Difference

Posted by Neil Etheridge on Jun 12, 2015 9:32:00 AM

When I was first approached by DISCO to become its Vice President of Marketing, I was intrigued by DISCO’s innovative vision and strategy. Having been intimately involved in the legal technology industry for more than 17 years, it struck me that the expectations created by companies selling legal tech products to lawyers and litigation support professionals has rarely, if ever, met the reality of their experience using those products.
